so I've been thinking about how i wanted to turn my car into a showcar lately and since im getting new pipes tommarow a odd...but cool idea came to my mind. now i was thinking about how an afterfire is unburned fuel in the exhaust system and how it was a cool thing(even if it means somethings gone terribly wrong) and then it hit me why not buil a fuel injection system that would spray a small amount of fuel into the exhaust system when activated, would be an awesome show car toy. it wouldn't have to feed of the main tank since that would be pretty dangerous instead have a small half or quater gallon tank in the truck or even better under the car.

using an electronic control system you could have several toggle switches(all have to be on to activate it) for safety, when the system activated it uses a small pressure pump to shoot fuel into the exhaust system(behind the axle) have it set up so once its turned on it will only engage when the engines above 4k rpm to ensure sufficient force to hurl it from the exhaust pipes. using something that would be akin to a taser you could ignite it just at the exhaust tips. the effect would be awe inspiring. granted there would be modifications required and im sure it would be highly illegal to activate the system on the road but at a car show it would be awesome for exhibition.

to keep it from melting your rear fascia it could be set up to only run for 3 seconds max then allow anywhere from 20 second to 3 or 4 minutes to allow the pipes to cool down. granted you'd probably want heat shielding between your car and the pipes(easily done) and incorporating a safety system that monitors system heat would be very simple.

just wanted to get yalls thoughts on this, it would be entirely doable further more im sure you would win high marks for it as a showcar mod. thats it tell me what you think

I have seen flaming pipes before being used by street tuners. It is a seperate system based on propane tank in trunk plumbed to sprayers in the exhaust and ignitor in the tail pipes. It can only be used at higher rpms (not sure how high) as the propane is injected about 6" from the exhaust tips (end) and electronicly ignited to cause a blue flame out the pipes.

Using rich exhaust to produce the flames is not a great idea. It builds in the cats and burns there causing the cats to get hot (real hot) which is not grea-*test*-('") idea. The flames you see in turboed race cars and sometimes in NACAR events is the excess fuel burning out of the exhaust system (no cats involved).

yah i wasnt gonna use rich exhaust to do it......dont like wasting fuel like that and that kind of system really couldn't be turned off. any ways ya i've seen the tuner propane thing...its cool and all but not quite what i had in mind, granted with a gaseous system you can do some really cool affects(putting additives in the propane you can change the flame color) i was thinking something more along the lines of a liquid based system something that would produce a very thick easily visible flame but only for a SHORT time(rear fascia's are too expensive...though i guess you could have an aluminum one made...still be very expensive and hard on the paint) any ways its something i think i could make in a few weeks of hard work plus it could be marketed reasonably easy.

yeah it shuts off the engine ignition system and turns the engine into a makeshift pump, has a pair of sparks plugs in the exhaust tips. interesting if not a bit pointless would be cool if you could use it when you shit buut thats not gonna happen with the pipe bomb system. would require a system that runs while the engine is actually running.
